UPLB trains faculty student relations officers

Sixty-seven faculty members from different colleges of UPLB participated in the Enhanced Faculty Student Relation Officers (FSRO) Level 1 Seminar Workshop on June 17 at the Sol Y Viento Mountain and Hot Spring Resort in Pansol, Calamba City.
The Office of Student Affairs (OSA) and the Task Force on Empowering Faculty for Effective Student Services (TF-EFESS) conducted a training program to equip faculty members with skills to assist students in their various concerns, being the ones who are directly in contact with and frequently sought for advice and assistance by students. The training program is part of the Capacity Building for Extra Academic Mentoring of the Faculty Empowerment for Effective Student Support Services.
The training course included the following topics and resource persons: Recognizing the Need for Empowering Faculty Student Support Services by Dr. Leticia E. Afuang, chair of the TFEFESS and OSA director; Who is the FSRO? by Dr. Ronnie C. Domingo, project development associate of OSA and faculty member of the College of Veterinary Medicine; Recognizing and Understanding the Psychological Concerns of Students by Dr. Aurora T. Roldan, associate professor of the College of Home Economics in UP Diliman; Gender Sensitivity and Sexual Harassment by Dr. Maria Helen F. Dayo, director of the UPLB Gender Center; and Basic Concrete Intervention Management and Referral Pathway for Students at Risks by Dr. Zenaida S. Torres, co-chair of the TF-EFESS and faculty member of the College of Human Ecology in UPLB.
At the end of the training course, a commitment ceremony with the trainees taking their oath as FSROs was led by Ms. Zenaida S. Loberiza and Dr. Erick Vernon Y. Dy, registered guidance counselors of UPLB.
