UPLB hosts the 12th Rogelio Sicat writing workshop

Fifteen upcoming writers in Filipino language are now in UPLB for the five-day national writing workshop called Palihang Rogelio Sicat (PRS).

These writing fellows were selected among more than 100 applicants to take part in the 12th edition of the workshop that was named in honor of the late Rogelio Sicat, a Palanca awardee known for his notable works such as the short story “Impeng Negro” and the one-act play “Moses, Moses.”

Among these fellows is Rochelle Ann Molina, a BA Communication Arts graduate from UPLB.

Ngayong taon, lubos naming ikinagagalak ang pagparito sa UP Los Baños ng Palihang Rogelio Sicat,” said Chancellor Fernando C. Sanchez, Jr. as he welcomed the participants during the PRS opening program on May 29 at the Obdulia F. Sison Hall.

Hinihimok ko ang bawat manunulat na narito ngayon na gamitin ang inyong talento sa pagpapabuti ng ating kultura at pagsulong ng kapakanan ng mamayan ng ating bayan,” Chancellor Sanchez added.

Present during the event were PRS co-founders, Dr. Jimmuel C. Naval and Dr. Reuel Molina Aguila of the UP Diliman Department of Filipino and Philippine Literature, the home unit of PRS.

Joining them were PRS guest of honor and playwright Bonifacio Ilagan;  Palanca awardee Luna Sicat Cleto; Assoc. Prof. Jerry Yapo, director of the UPLB Office for Initiatives in Culture and the Arts; and Alexis Mejia, former Staff Regent.

The writing fellows who were present, aside from Molina, were Ryan Alcarde, Napoleon Arcilla III, Gabriela Baron, Jan Henry Choa Jr., Joycel Vincent Dabalos, Evan John Daynos, Ferdinand Eusebio, Geraldine Gentozala-Juachon, Myla Ogaya, Angela Mae Pamaos, Jason Federigan Pozon, Eddie Ramos, Rod Anthony Robles, and Elizabeth Joy Serrano-Quijano.
