CEAT to celebrate 113th founding anniversary

With the theme “Driving Sustainable Transformation in Agro-industry and Allied Fields,” the College of Engineering and Agro-industrial Technology (CEAT) will celebrate its 113th founding anniversary from February 24 to March 28, 2025.

The month-long celebration features an awarding ceremony, the 4th International Conference on Engineering and Agro-industrial Technology (iCEAT 2025), webinar and seminar series, and Himig at Sayaw, a competition amongst CEAT student organizations conceptualized to display the artistic abilities and talents of CEAT students, particularly those who excel in theater and the arts.

The annual awarding ceremony will be held at the Electrical Engineering Auditorium on February 24, the exact founding date of the college. CEAT will recognize outstanding personnel, students, retirees and service loyalty awardees, and licensure examination top performers.

A webinar and seminar series will be conducted on March 7 with topics on carbon emission reduction by Engr. Cesar L. Abaca, Jr. On March 21, CEAT will collaborate with the National Research Council of the Philippines for a seminar on project proposal writing.

Meanwhile, iCEAT 2025, themed “Enhancing Structural Resilience, Reducing Carbon Footprint, and Integrating AI-Driven Innovations toward a Sustainable Future,” will be held in a hybrid format from March 12 to 15.

It aims to provide a venue for discussion and recommendations from experts, educators, policymakers, and industry representatives on the latest trends, issues, and solutions for engineering and agro-industrial technology.

The Himig at Sayaw, to be held at the DL Umali Auditorium on March 28, will cap off the celebration.

CEAT traces its roots to the Department of Agricultural Engineering, which was created in 1912 as one of the departments of the UP College of Agriculture.

In 1976, it was elevated into the Institute of Agricultural Engineering and Technology (INSAET) and into CEAT on February 24, 1983, at the 958th meeting of the UP Board of Regents. (Mary Jane F. Gallardo)
