Himig at Sayaw 2025 tackles gender inequality in the engineering industry

Engineering students once again showcased their acting and artistic prowess at Himig at Sayaw 2025, held at Baker Memorial Hall on April 10, 2025.

The competition featured musical presentations from eight student academic organizations based at the College of Engineering and Agro-industrial Technology (CEAT). This year, students crafted their performances based on the theme “Unite, Defy, Reclaim: Engineering justice and transforming science towards gender inclusivity,” drawing out stories and experiences of gender inequality and gender expectations in the science, technology, and engineering sector.

The UPLB Society of Electrical Engineering students (SELES) took home the championship with a jukebox musical set in the fictional Barangay SELES. The organization also won the People’s Choice Award and Best Set Design.

The UP Society of Agricultural Engineering Students came in as first-runner-up, followed by The UP Civil Engineering Society as the second-runner-up, who also won Best Costume Design. First launched in 2011, Himig at Sayaw is annually organized by the CEAT Student Council. It is part of the line-up of activities celebrating CEAT’s 113th  founding anniversary.
