HRDO orients new employees as part of Benefits Seminar

The UPLB Human Resources Development Office (HRDO) hosted the New Employee Orientation at the UPLB Social Garden on December 11, 2024, as part of a whole-day Benefits Seminar.

The orientation, which was attended by over 40 newly hired faculty members, REPS, and administrative staff, highlighted key topics such as employee benefits, work ethics, leave management, and other mandatory benefits and services from Pagtutulungan sa Kinabukasan: Ikaw, Bangko, Industriya at Gobyerno or Pag-IBIG and the Government Service Insurance System or GSIS.

In his opening remarks, HRDO Director Roderick C. Javar warmly welcomed the new hires and expressed HRDO’s commitment to supporting their career journey at UPLB.

“Sa simula po hanggang sa matapos [ang inyong journey] ay kasama niyo ang HRDO—kaming HRDO ay i-a-assist kayo sa bawat proseso at sa stage ng inyong career dito sa university. Welcome sa paglilingkod sa ating unibersidad,” said Javar.

(Throughout your journey at the University, HRDO will be with you. We will assist you throughout all processes in your career. Welcome to serving the university.)

Ammiel V. Talatala, administrative officer and chief of the Employee Benefits Section, began the orientation with an overview of employee benefits, including both mandatory and UP-specific benefits, compensation, government working hours, and eligibility.

Following this, Ricardo Amiel V. Reveche, supervising administrative officer, discussed ethics in the workplace, elaborating on the guiding policies of Republic Act 11032, also known as the Ease of Doing Business Act of 2018, Republic Act 9485 or the Anti-Red Tape Act of 2007, Republic Act 6713 or the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees, and the 2017 Rules on Administrative Cases in the Civil Service.

These policies emphasize the responsibilities of public sector employees in ensuring efficient and ethical service.

“Kailangan isagawa, at once maisagawa mo, magiging habit mo ‘yon. So, madadala mo ‘yon at maisasabuhay mo kahit sa labas,” said Reveche, referring to employees’ commitment in abiding work moral and service standards.

(We need to practice this, and doing so will help make it a habit. You will then carry it with you, and you will live it even outside the university.)

The session continued with Administrative Officer IV Jose Juel J. Baroña, who discussed leave privileges. Representatives from partner agencies, Jizelle Mae E. Lopez of Pag-IBIG and Marby A. Somoza of GSIS, shared updates on their respective programs and services.

In his closing message, Talatala expressed his gratitude to the participants and encouraged them to seek assistance from HRDO whenever needed.

Aries Anuyo, administrative staff from the Institute of Agroforestry of the College of Forestry and Natural Resources, shared that the orientation helped him better understand the benefits and resources available to him as a new permanent employee.

“Mayr’on po palang gano’n dito sa UP, na hindi ko po alam kung hindi po nagpatawag ng New Employee Orientation,” said Anuyo.

(I didn’t know that we have this program here in UPLB. I would not have known this if I was not asked to join the New Employee Orientation.)

The Benefits Seminar is a semiannual event pioneered by the HRDO’s Employee Benefits Section. The second installment of the said activity is scheduled for the second quarter of the year. (Aldea Bernadette O. Monfero)
