Likhaan literary reading at UPLB features seasoned writers

Some of the country’s finest writers read their recent literary works before UPLB students and humanities teachers on Oct. 24 at the NCAS Auditorium.

Gemino H. Abad, Romulo P. Baquiran, Luna Sicat-Cleto, John Iremil Teodoro, Santiago Villafonia, Januar Yap, and Hermilinda Bulong, all fellows of Likhaan: The UP Institute of Creative Writing presented their selected poems and novel excerpts that were written in English, Filipino, Hiligaynon-Kiniray-a, Pangasinan, Cebuano, and Ilocano.

Among the works read were Abad’s “I teach my child”; Baquiran’s “Kung ang bulaklak mo’y bumukad nang lihim” “Oro, Plata, Mata” by Sicat-Cleto; Teodoro’s “Pagdating sa Heidelberg,”; “Mathematics of Modern Love” by Villafonia; “Librarian” by Yap; and an excerpt from Bulong’s novel “Kalinawa.”

This public literary reading served as an extension activity of Likhaan’s “Kumustahan 2018: Creative writing in the Philippines today”

‘Kumustahan’ is a seminar-workshop that gathered Likhaan fellows and guest writers in the Philippine major languages to assess the current situation of creative writing in the country. (Jessa Arana)
