New UP staff regent is a UPLB alumna

The UP System’s 7th staff regent, Victoria C. Belegal, is a graduate of UPLB who belongs to BSA class of 1991.

Hon. Belegal, an administrative officer at the UP Open University Office of the University Registrar (UPOU-OUR), was sworn into office on Oct. 18 at UPOU. She will serve as staff regent from October 2021 to 2023.

Belegal was elected to the position of UP staff regent in the Oct. 4 elections after winning against Julie E. Taguinay, a guidance service specialist from UP Baguio.

Aside from having administrative duties at UPOU, Belegal is currently the president of the All UP Workers Union-UPOU Chapter. She has completed Masters in Public Management from the Victoria University of Wellington.

In her acceptance speech, Belegal expressed her commitment to uphold the rights and concerns of the UP staff, as well as the other sectors of UP in the BOR. She also emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration of the staff sector together with UP’s faculty, students, and alumni in pursuing their overall well-being.

Inaasahan ko po ang isang mabunga at makabuluhang pakikipag-ugnayan sa loob ng Lupon ng mga Rehente ng Unibersidad ng Pilipinas,” she said. (I look forward to fruitful and meaningful interactions within the UP Board of Regents.) (Jessa Jael S. Arana)
