SSO conducts HAZMAT Awareness Seminar

The UPLB Security and Safety Office (SSO), under the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs, held a Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) Awareness seminar on March 17.

The HAZMAT seminar was led by SFO3 Rodolfo L. De Guzman Jr. of the Bureau of Fire Protection’s Special Rescue Unit.

It provided information about the different categories of HAZMAT and how they differ regarding their chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive (CBRNE) hazards. It also included precautions and response protocols for first responders.

Special Police Assistant Chief Jonathan Maliwat of SSO delivered the welcome message to the participants emphasizing that the activity is part of the Fire Prevention March and is in line with the issuance of Office of the Chancellor Memorandum No. 021 series of 2023, UPLB Fire Prevention Month CY 2023.

Also present was Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs Roberto P. Cereno, who gave an inspiring message and shared OVCCA programs such as UPLB Safety, Health, and Intra-community Engagements for Lifesaving Defense (SHIELD) and UPLB Rescue, Emergency, and Disaster Ready (READY).

In the program’s closing ceremony, Dr. Mark Dondi Arboleda, officer-in-charge of SSO, said that the lecture was successful because of the active participation of the participants. He mentioned his plans to have more learning events on HAZMAT in coordination with BFP-SRU. (Pamela Mai R. Arquiza)
