SSO seminar equips ROTC cadets with fire safety skills

On April 5, 2025, the UPLB Security and Safety Office (SSO) held a campus fire safety seminar to enhance awareness among Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) cadets regarding fire prevention, compliance with local fire codes, and essential safety practices.

SSO Special Police Assistant Chief Jonathan D. Maliwat led discussions on key provisions of the Philippine Fire Code, including fire protection systems, proper use of fire extinguishers, and fire drills.

Following this, Special Police Lieutenant Pamela Mai R. Arquiza discussed the importance of having fire hydrants and the availability and condition of fire hydrants on the campus.

Through these presentations, the students were able to gain valuable knowledge on maintaining fire safety and responding effectively in emergencies.

The seminar, organized by the Department of Military Science and Tactics (DMST) in collaboration with the UPLB SSO, exemplified the university’s commitment to fostering a culture of preparedness.
The SSO, led by Director Eric Paul D. Peralta, continues to implement initiatives that equip UPLB constituents in and strengthen campus safety and emergency readiness. (Pamela Mai R. Arquiza)
