Residents of UPLB staff housing facilities who need a safe place to stay tonight during the expected onslaught of Typhoon Rolly in the campus are encouraged to evacuate to Baker Hall as soon as possible.
In anticipation of the damaging winds and strong rains that Typhoon Rolly will bring to the campus, Chancellor Jose V. Camacho, Jr. designated Baker Hall as evacuation center for UPLB staff residing in over 200 staff housing facilities in the campus.
Key UPLB officials including Dr. Fernando O. Paras, Jr., vice chancellor for planning and development, For. Roberto P. Cereno, vice chancellor for community affairs, and Prof. Rolando T. Bello, vice chancellor for administration visited Baker Hall along with Dr. Marloe B. Sundo, director of the University Planning and Maintenance Office (UPMO), Engr. Donny Rey Camus, chief of Grounds, Roads, and Garbage Section of UPMO, and Mr. Jonathan Maliwat, Special Police Assistant Chief and Deputy Chief, University Police Force (UPF). Maliwat has been designated officer-in-charge at Baker Hall tonight until 7 AM tomorrow, November 2. He will also see to it that health protocols are in place inside the evacuation center.
Today marks the first day in office of Chancellor Camacho who was elected UPLB Chancellor on September 24 at the 1354th meeting of the UP Board of Regents.
According to Vice Chancellor Paras, personnel of the University Health Service will also be on call at Baker Hall while the UPLB Housing Office will provide mattresses for the evacuees.
UPLB staff housing facilities, located as they are in the midst of trees, are in danger of tree fall, falling branches, and debris during strong typhoons.
Members of the UPF have in fact been on call to conduct clearing operations of housing facilities that have reported potentially hazardous tree branches or have already experienced branches falling on their houses.
Laguna has been placed under Signal No. 4 as of 8 AM today.
