UPLB income-generating project units train on pricing strategies for their products

The UPLB Business Affairs Office (BAO), in partnership with the Department of Agribusiness Management and Entrepreneurship (DAME) of the College of Economics and Management, took the managers of various UPLB income-generating project (IGP) units through the intricacies of pricing and pricing strategies for their products.

This was done in a training-workshop entitled UPricing: A Training on Pricing Strategies for UPLB Products held on Sept. 22-23 at the Bayleaf in General Trias, Cavite. The training-workshop participants were representatives of UPLB units and the UPLB Alumni Association.

These UPLB units are the National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Dairy Training and Research Institute, UPLB Startup Innovation and Business Opportunities Linkages FabLab, Institute of Food Science and Technology, Institute of Human Nutrition and Food, Institute of Plant Breeding, Makiling Botanic Gardens, Makiling Center for Mountain Ecosystems, Museum of Natural History, Obdulia Fronda Sison Hall, Training Center for Tropical Resources and Ecosystems Sustainability, and Technology Transfer and Business Development Office.

This is part of UPSKILL or Seminars and Knowledge Information Learning on Entrepreneurship and Innovation Leadership, a series of training-workshops that aims to upgrade, update, and upscale the knowledge and skills of UPLB units that have critical income generating projects and partner MSMEs in entrepreneurship and enterprise management.

Vice Chancellor for Administration Rolando T. Bello welcomed the training participants in a message where he highlighted the role of pricing and the UPSKILL training in future-proofing the university’s IGPs.

The training-workshop followed a gamified approach where participants underwent a series of interactive games and activities to learn the three pricing strategies — cost pricing, competitor pricing, and consumer pricing.

The gamified training-workshop was led by resource ‘players’ Asst. Prof. Cris Edwin Bonalos, Asst. Prof. Renen Szilardo De Guzman, and Asst. Prof. Gian Carlo de Jesus, all faculty members from DAME. They were facilitated by Quintina Camunias of the Accounting Office and Asst. Prof. Fitz Jimenez, also from DAME.

The different participant-unit representatives reviewed their current pricing and integrated their learning into their proposed revised pricing for their selected products.
The UPLB finance team was composed of chiefs of relevant administrative offices, namely: Marie Claire Raymundo, Accounting Division; Elizabeth Eala, Cashier’s Office; and Joan Mendoza,  Internal Control Office. John Reymark Garcia represented the Budget Management Office on behalf of Ethel Cabral.

They provided insights regarding fiscal-related policies and processes of the university for IGPs. The training workshop also provided a platform for IGP units to clarify financial management and operational concerns.
Dr. Jennifer Marie Amparo, asst. vice chancellor for administration and BAO director, gave a synthesis of the training program where she highlighted the value of future-proofing IGPs through continuous learning and open-mindedness, streamlining university processes, and collaborative thinking in developing an entrepreneurial university. (Sheryl B.
