UPLB IRNR trains Bulusan Volcano Natural Park stakeholders on environmental interpretation

Dr. Rogelio T. Andrada II and Dr. Frechie Belle O. Lo, outdoor recreation and tourism experts of the Institute of Renewable Natural Resources, College of Forestry and Natural Resources, trained representatives of stakeholder agencies and groups on developing environmental interpretation programs for Bulusan Volcano Natural Park (BVNP).

BVNP personnel organized the training workshop, which was held from March 10 to 14, 2025, in Bulusan, Sorsogon, through Protected Area Superintendent Eleanor D. Lacsi-de la Cruz.

Realizing the importance of elevating BVNP’s educational function, de la Cruz saw the need for its stakeholders to be directly involved in developing relevant and responsive environmental interpretation programs in BVNP.

Thus, the training-workshop participants represent the BVNP-Protected Areas Management Office, Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) of Bulusan, MENRO Irosin, Lingap Para sa Kalusugan ng Sambayanan Inc., Bulusan Environmental Stewards and Tourism Ecoguides Association, Bulusan Lake Eco-Guide Workers Association, Bulusan Massage Therapist Workers Association, and the Bulusan Lake Fishers.

The opening day included a welcome by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer, Marlon C. Francia, and the Technical Services Division Head, Ma Fe P. Reganit.

The training workshop includes discussions on the basic principles of environmental interpretation, field exposure activities, and group activities focusing on crafting interpretation programs in various forms. All these activities aim to improve the interpretation strategies of BVNP. BVNP will implement these strategies later this year. (Rogelio T. Andrada II and Frechie Belle O. Lo)
