On August 16, 2024, UPLB inked a collaboration agreement with the Philippine Society for Cosmetic Science, Inc. (PSCS). The partnership, which aims to advance cosmetic sciences in the Philippines, was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding signed by key representatives from both organizations.
The ceremony was led by UPLB Chancellor Jose V. Camacho, Jr., Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension Nathaniel Bantayan, and BIOTECH Director Fides Marciana Tambalo. PSCS president Precious Joy Abelada represented the organization.
This event not only highlighted the collaborative spirit of both entities but also set the stage for the creation of the Philippine Cosmetic Garden at UPLB’s National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (BIOTECH).
The establishment of the Philippine Cosmetic Garden is an initiative to cultivate indigenous plants and other bio-resources that are vital raw materials for developing bio-based cosmetic ingredients and promoting sustainability and innovation within the local cosmetic industry.
The garden is envisioned to become a hub for scientific research and a platform for sustainable practices, aligning with global trends toward eco-friendly product development.
The partnership between UPLB and PSCS exemplifies a strategic alignment between academic research and industry needs, fostering a knowledge exchange that is poised to enhance the development of innovative, safe, and sustainable cosmetic products. (Ana Vera G. Oleta)
