The offering of the Master of Science in Applied Physics and Doctor of Philosophy by Research (Applied Physics) programs was approved by the UP Board of Regents (BOR) at its 1392nd Regular Meeting on August 30, 2024.
These newest postgraduate programs of the Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Physics (IMSP) of the College of Arts and Sciences aim to provide more advanced comprehensive training on specialized knowledge, skills, and competencies in instrumentation, material physics, or computational physics.
Through the Doctor of Philosophy by Research (Applied Physics) program, experienced practitioners of applied physics shall be able to further enrich their expertise, prospects, and perspectives in interdisciplinary research collaboration between physics and other disciplines.
In this research-based program, the students will have more time to devote to work on the latest issues and applications of physics.
The Master of Science in Applied Physics program, which shall cater to holders of baccalaureate degrees in physics, applied physics, or related fields, aims to provide a strengthened foundation for careers in both research and industry by focusing on a blend of theory and practice highlighting real-world applications of physics.
The main proponents of the two graduate programs are IMSP faculty members Ranzivelle Marianne Roxas-Villanueva, Allan Abraham Padama, Junius Andre Balista, Ivy Colambo, Marvin Herrera, Lou Serafin Lozada, and Alvin Karlo Tapia.
Both programs will be offered beginning in the second semester of Academic Year 2024-2025. Information about the programs will be posted on the IMSP webpage and Facebook page.
IMSP will also hold ”Info Session,” an information and recruitment drive with the first edition to be held via virtual conferencing on September 21, 2024.
