UPLB conducts teaching workshop

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs is conducting the 6-day Seminar-Workshop on College Teaching from July 13 to July 18 to train newly recruited members of the faculty of UPLB.

Prof. Aleli Domingo, one of the facilitators in the seminar-workshop stated that the goal of this seminar workshop is to mold teachers who would help in nation building. “Shape the ones who shape the minds that shape nation” Prof. Domingo said.

Prof. Romeo de la Cruz, a member of the UPLB faculty and the program’s guest speaker said that UP is the strength of the nation because “we, the teachers, equip our graduates with the right information, skills, and values.” He also said that a concrete teaching philosophy is the backbone of a strong faculty and this can be obtained through field work, experience, research, and trainings.

Meanwhile, Chancellor Fernando C. Sanchez, Jr. who gave the opening remarks on the first day of the seminar-workshop enjoined the new teachers to help students realize their strengths. “This seminar-workshop will teach you how to do that. This workshop will teach you how to teach,” Chancellor Sanchez added.

The seminar-workshop covers university policies and services, UPLB pedagogy, authentic assessment, skills and values for teaching, gender sensitivity, internationalization, research work, counselling, and will culminate with a teaching demonstration by the participants. (JLR Roble III)
