UPLB int’l students celebrate cultural diversity at annual event

“We are one!” chanted UPLB International students as they gathered for the International Students’ Association (ISA) Cultural Night on Nov. 10 at the D.L. Umali Hall.

The event showcased cultural performances from students hailing from Bangladesh, Cambodia, Czech Republic, Ghana, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Liberia, Myanmar, Nigeria, Papa New Guinea, Peru, Philippines, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam.

ISA president Phouthasone Khouangvichit said that the activity aims to foster friendship and cultural awareness among the international students at UPLB.

In his inspirational message, Chancellor Fernando C. Sanchez, Jr. related the event to the essence of working together. “This wonderful display and gathering of various cultures around the world should remind us of the importance of cooperation, camaraderie, and unity. I am a firm believer that we can all achieve many great things when we work together conscientiously towards a common goal.”

Also present during the event were Dr. Portia G. Lapitan, vice chancellor for academic affairs; Dr. Nina M. Cadiz, director of the Office of Student Affairs; and Dr. Mark Dondi Arboleda, adviser of ISA and secretary of the Graduate School. (John Glen S. Sarol)
