CFNR marks 108th year with a spanking “new” auditorium

CFNR anniv Lansigan audi

The opening of the doors of the renovated and modernized Nicolas P. Lansigan Auditorium highlighted the celebration of the 108th founding year of the College of Forestry and Natural Resources on Apr. 18.

The College auditorium, named after one of the foremost Filipino foresters, went through a major overhaul under a PhP 5.2 million-project funded by the UPLB central administration. Meanwhile, its state-of-the-art sound system, which is yet to be completed, was partially sponsored by the Lansigan family, who donated PhP 1 million for the project.

It was on the stage of the renovated auditorium where the outstanding personnel, service awardees, retirees, and other achievers of the College stood up to receive their accolades during the anniversary event.

“The College’s achievements clearly would not be possible without CFNR’s dedicated and esteemed people. And today, we will recognize the people who devoted their time and craft in making CFNR the College that it is known today,” said Chancellor Fernando C. Sanchez, Jr., who led the awarding ceremonies.

CFNR awardees

This year’s outstanding teachers were Dr. Analyn Codilan (physical sciences), Peter Jerome Del Rosario (social sciences), and Dr. Lerma Maldia (biological sciences). Dr. Nathaniel Bantayan was named outstanding researcher, while Arlene Romano and Conrado Serrano were hailed as outstanding administrative personnel in technician/craftsman and blue collar categories, respectively.

CFNR also recognized 11 retirees, four past unit heads, and four new UP scientists, namely Dr. Menandro Acda, Dr. Juan Pulhin, Dr. Willie Abasolo, and Dr. Edwino Fernando. Athletes who recently won in the UPLB and CFNR-wide sports events were also awarded.

Thirty personnel were honored for their continuous services to the College for the past 25, 30, 35, and 40 years. One of them is Dr. Rex Victor O. Cruz, past UPLB chancellor, who has been teaching at CFNR for the past four decades.

Ang mga kasamahan ko ay tumagal sa serbisyo hindi dahil sila ay obligadong manilbihan; nandito sila dahil minahal nila ang kanilang ginagawa at ipinasailalim ang kanilang interes sa ating kolehiyo. Tumagal tayo sa serbisyo dahil minahal natin ang kolehiyo ng higit sa ating sarili,” said Dr. Cruz, who spoke on behalf of the service awardees.

Present during the event were Dr. Portia Lapitan and Dr. Serlie Jamias, vice chancellors for academic affairs and community affairs, respectively; Dr. Willie Abasolo and Engr. Ronniel Manalo, CFNR dean and associate dean, respectively; For. Dexter Cabahug, president of CFNR Alumni Association; Dr. Casiano Abrigo, Jr., executive director of UPLB Foundation, Inc.; Dr. Patricia Sanchez, UPLB faculty member and wife of Chancellor Sanchez; and members of the Lansigan family: Augusto, Cynthia, Nicolas, Jr., and Dr. Felino Lansigan, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

Also present were other UPLB and CFNR officials, representatives of partner agencies, and the CFNR workforce, students, and alumni. (Mark Jayson E. Gloria)
