UPLB to hold OBE workshop series

With Outcome-Based Education (OBE) model becoming a requirement for global competitiveness in higher education, UPLB is making sure that all its academic programs are compliant by conducting the Faculty Training-Workshop on OBE for Quality Assurance. All UPLB Faculty members are expected to participate in the learning event.

OBE was first introduced as a curriculum design in all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to improve the quality and delivery of academic programs. It is now deemed necessary in ensuring program quality and delivery of any HEI and has become a prerequisite to other quality assurance systems.

The ASEAN University Network (AUN), of which UP is a member, requires member universities to implement OBE in designing curricular degree programs and courses.

Currently, UPLB has five (5) degree programs that are AUN-certified and in February of this year, UPLB itself underwent institutional assessment under the AUN. EU SHARE visited UPLB for institutional assessment.

The OBE workshop covers discussions on the philosophy of theory; principles of OBE in higher education and its relation to the AUN-QA assessment standards for UPLB programs; process of designing courses through OBE; review courses and academic programs using the OBE principles; and instructional requirements for OBE in terms of teaching methods and strategies and assessment.

Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and activity leader, Dr. Portia G. Lapitan, spearheads the event with Assistant to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Julieta A. delos Reyes. The workshop series will have nine sessions each and will run from May 24 to July 3, 2018 at the Electrical Engineering Auditorium of the College of Engineering and Agro-Industrial Technology’s.
