UPLB launches off-campus MMgt program at the PS-DBM

UPLB, through the Graduate School (GS) and the College of Economics and Management (CEM) has launched the off-campus Master of Management program for employees of the Procurement Service of the Department of Budget and Management (PS-DBM) at the DBM headquarters in Paco, Manila on Nov. 26.

PS-DBM has provided partial scholarships to its deserving employees who will be on the MMgt program that is being implemented by UPLB for continuing organizational development in the former. According to Atty. Tomas C. Syquia, executive director of PS-DBM, “to be the best, we must be taught by the best,” referring to the choice of UPLB as the partner institution.  

Undersecretary Richard Bon E. Moya, who delivered a message on behalf of Budget Secretary Florencio B. Abad, said that SUCs are addressing a lot of things except the needs of the government. “We must also look into the capacity of everyone and start working as a team in the government,” he added.

Dr. Isabelita M. Pabuayon, CEM dean, gave an overview of CEM while Dr. Jose V. Camacho, GS dean,  introduced the scholars to the off-campus program.

UP President Alfredo E. Pascual and UPLB Chancellor Fernando C. Sanchez Jr., also graced the launching program. According to President Pascual, the off-campus offering is part of UP’s public service. President Pascual enjoined the UP faculty present at the launch, saying, “let us create the champions, let us create the engine and focus on the key areas."

Chancellor Fernando C. Sanchez Jr., on the other hand, told the scholars that the skills and knowledge they will acquire from the off-campus program will be their tools in their future endeavors.

Dr. Portia Lapitan, vice chancellor for academic affairs, delivered the closing remarks during the program, reiterating the commitment of UPLB to provide the PS-DBM with graduate education that will enable it to deliver value added service to government procurement. She also thanked PS-DBM for the trust and confidence that it gave to UPLB. (JPAAquino)
