UPLB-CFNR shines with 63 Latin honor graduates amid pandemic challenges

The College of Forestry and Natural Resources joined the 51st Commencement Exercises of the University of the Philippines Los Baños, its second face-to-face ceremony since the pandemic began in 2020.

With its vision of being “a world-class leader in the education, science, and responsible management of tropical forests, natural resources, and the environment,” the UPLB-CFNR produced 158 graduates, both of the Bachelor of Science in Forestry and Certificate in Forestry, covering midyear 2022, first semester of AY 2022-2023, and second semester of AY 2022-2023.

Among the 179 graduates, 128 are BSF and 28 are CiF graduates, BS Agriculture major in Landscape Agroforestry (joint program with CAFS), and BS Chemical Engineering major in Pulp and Paper Technology (joint program with CEAT). Twenty-one completed their postgraduate degree.

Sixty-three of the graduates received Latin honors, 16 magna cum laude and 47 cum laude graduates. All were given the Faculty Award for Academic Excellence in Forestry and Natural Resources. Eight CiF graduates with outstanding academic performance were also given the Faculty Award for Academic Excellence for Certificate in Forestry.

Both magna cum laude, Rosinda Lantingan Arendain was awarded as the class valedictorian while the class salutatorian was Clarence Mikko R. Jao.

The college also recognized three graduates with leadership awards, namely: Kyle Adrian B. Cancino (Tamesis Award for Academic Excellence and Leadership), Shania Raagas (Society of Filipino Foresters’ Leadership Award), and Eunice Claire V. Zuñiga (UPLB Alumni Association Leadership Award). (Jonathan O. Hernandez)
