HRDO Spearheads Financial Management Orientation

The UPLB Human Resources Development Office (UPLB HRDO) led a seminar on financial management on April 21 with over 170 attendees.

The webinar aimed to instill the importance of financial management regardless of the status and length of service. Furthermore, it was also emphasized that basic knowledge about the topic should be shared among colleagues and family members in order to aid in personal and professional development and efficiency.

During the webinar, DAME Professor and Associate Dean of the College of Economics and Management (CEM) Asst. Prof. Arlene C. Gutierrez said that managing our money well is the key to achieving financial freedom. She defined financial freedom as being able to prioritize needs over wants, balancing income and expenses, and building wealth and maintaining reserves among others.

Asst. Prof. Gutierrez also enumerated the steps to achieving good financial health which includes financial planning or predicting and managing future cash flows, expenditures and asset values. She also tackled topics like saving and budgeting, debt management, good and bad debts, and investing.

The webinar concluded with AVC Jennifer Marie S. Amparo’s closing remarks. She expressed that the webinar is very critical to the university since human resource is the most important capital of an agency. She reminded the attendees to start investing and not to wait for tomorrow before taking action.

A recorded copy of the webinar may be accessed at the official HRDO Facebook page. (Aurney Shayne B. Atienza)
