Laguna youth attend ecological awareness training

The UPLB Ugnayan ng Pahinungód, in collaboration with the Laguna Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Office (LCCAMO) and Philippine Association of Environmental Science Students, held the Ecological Youth Training 2022: Environmental Education and Stewardship on Nov. 26 at the Bahay ng Pahinungód to raise youth’s awareness on how to protect the environment and conserve and manage its natural resources.

In his welcome speech, Henry Halawig of LCCAMO emphasized the importance of actively mitigating climate change.

The training focused on various conservation and resource management activities in the morning, followed by a discussion on disaster and climate change in the afternoon.

The delegates also participated in visioning and action planning. They identified an ecological problem in their area and devised a step-by-step plan to solve the problem based on what they had learned from the training.

As part of the training’s synthesis, Tony Angelo C. Alvaran of Laguna University urged the delegates to practice effective waste management.

The training concluded with a closing message from UPLB Pahinungód Director Jose Limbay Lahi O. Espaldon, who challenged the participants to take even the smallest action to slow down climate change because it can have a significant impact.

Fourteen delegates representing Barangay Volunteer Workers-Youth, Laguna University, and Youth Development Authority attended the training. (Melanie C. Ilang-Ilang)
