Romblon State U benchmarks engineering practices in UPLB

UPLB continues to capacitate state universities and colleges through collaborative undertakings in curriculum and human resource development.

The College of Engineering and Technology (CET) of Romblon State University (RSU) visited the College of Engineering and Agro-industrial Technology (CEAT) on June 14 as part of its benchmarking activities in UPLB.

The visit followed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with UPLB at the Executive Conference Hall at the Office of the Chancellor on the same day.

Dr. Alfredo F. Fortu Jr., dean of CET and a graduate of the MS and PhD Agricultural Engineering program at CEAT, led the team of RSU faculty from the departments of Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.

RSU toured different CEAT facilities, including the Innovative Materials Laboratory, Hydraulic Laboratory, Mechatronix Laboratory, and the AMPED shop.

Dr. Rossana Marie C. Amongo, dean of CEAT, presented to the RSU delegation an overview of CEAT, its research and extension activities, and internationalization programs. She also gave insights to help CET in their future development and accreditation plans.

The benchmarking activity is CET’s response to RSU’s 10-Point Agenda and Quality Policy and is in preparation for their application for the Level IV accreditation in the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines.

UPLB’s collaborative undertaking with RSU in developing its engineering programs is in line with UP’s mandate to lead higher education development in the country. (Mary Jane F. Gallardo)
