SSO first StratPlan Workshop

The Security and Safety Office (SSO, formerly University Police Force) under the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs held their first two-day strategic planning workshop with the theme of “Strengthening Campus Security and Safety towards a Future-proof Resilient UPLB Campus”, which was facilitated by Prof. Nelson Jose Vincent B. Querijero, Director of UPLB Gender Center last July 28-29, 2022. The Section Chiefs, Team Leaders, and Special Police Officer-in-Charge from Makiling Center for Mountain Ecosystems, Laguna-Quezon Land Grant, La Granja Research and Training Station and UPLB Baguio Pacdal Satellite participated in the workshop.

On the first day, Prof. Querijero introduced the SOAR concepts – Strength, Opportunity, Aspiration, and Result followed by a historical review of mandate, mission and function of former University Police Force, now SSO. Special Police Assistant Chief Jonathan D. Maliwat discussed the historical antecedents of UP Security and Police Force based on the 1949 to 2022 UP BOR approval.

The second day focused on creating, planning, and reviewing the manual, annual plans, and budget. The SSO comes up with the strategies and realistic timeline of implementation for its plans and programs during the next three (3) years.

Dr. Mark Dondi M. Arboleda, Ph.D., Officer-in-Charge, delivered the opening remarks and introduced the guest of honor and speaker, Chancellor Jose V. Camacho, Jr., with an inspiring message emphasizing professionalism, changes, and very timely development of the SSO and the importance of being prepared in times of crisis.

Also present was Assistant Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs, Dr. Benevieve D. Villanueva, who gave the closing remarks. (Pamela Mai Arquiza)
