UPLB has embarked on a series of strategic partnerships with various industry leaders to strengthen the practical training and industry readiness of its students. 

These agreements, signed in February, align with UPLB’s commitment to providing its students with real-world experience and enhancing their employability upon graduation.

On February 14, an academe-industry cooperation agreement was formed between UPLB and Pig Improvement Company, Inc. (PIC Philippines), a prominent player in the animal science industry. 

This collaboration aims to offer internship opportunities for students pursuing animal science and related majors. 

The signing ceremony saw the participation of UPLB Chancellor Jose V. Camacho Jr. and Dr. Elpidio Agbisit, Jr., dean of the College of Agriculture and Food Science (CAFS), and Vincent Raphael Borromeo, president and general manager of PIC Philippines, cementing the commitment between the two entities.

Adding to its roster of industry collaborations, UPLB also signed an agreement with Farmvocacy, a start-up led by UPLB alumnus Vincent Roy Mendoza, on February 22. 

This partnership is designed to provide practicum placements for students, emphasizing the importance of hands-on experience in the agriculture sector. 

During the event, Chancellor Camacho highlighted the critical role of soft skills and industry readiness for graduates, underscoring the university’s focus on holistic student development.

The momentum continued on February 27, with the College of Engineering and Agro-industrial Technology (CEAT) formalizing partnerships with four new industry players: Mobilect Power Corporation, SerComm Philippines, Inc., Woodfields Consultants, Inc., and SM Engineering, Design and Development Corp. 

These agreements are set to offer a broad spectrum of opportunities, including internships, job placements, and academic collaborations, contributing to the students’ comprehensive learning experience.

These signing ceremonies with CEAT were attended by key UPLB officials, including Dr. Agham Cuevas, vice chancellor for academic affairs, who represented Chancellor Camacho, and CEAT Officer-in-Charge Marion Lux Castro. 

Their presence underscored the university-wide initiative to integrate academic pursuits with industry practices, preparing students to meet the demands of the global workforce effectively.

UPLB’s proactive approach to establishing these partnerships demonstrates its dedication to advancing educational quality and relevance.
