In line with UPLB’s commitment to maintaining a safe and secure academic community, the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs (OVCCA) hosted a campus road safety seminar for senior high school students (SHS) of the UP Rural High School on Feb. 16 at the Charles Fuller Baker Hall.

The learning activity was organized in partnership with Honda Safety Driving Center (HSDC) Philippines and was participated in by 185 SHS students of licensing age.

It aimed to familiarize the youth with the fundamentals of road safety, traffic laws, and the importance of being responsible road users.

In his welcome message, VCCA Roberto P. Cereno highlighted the importance of road safety awareness to prevent road accidents.

According to him, it is best to involve the youth in road safety campaigns and equip them with the right knowledge, skills, and attitude to develop their safety consciousness and strengthen their sense of responsibility early on.

Michael A. Mamalayan, HSDC senior instructor, tackled various road safety topics including driving requirements, road signs, national traffic laws, defensive driving, and responsibilities of road users.

To make the activity interactive and interesting for the young audience, a hands-on simulated driving activity was done after the lecture.

Following the program, Cereno thanked HSDC for partnering again with UPLB after the road safety seminar that was held for UPLB drivers last December 2022. (Roi Mojado)
