UPLB partners with Cargill PH for internship opportunities

UPLB formalized its partnership with Cargill Philippines, Inc. (Cargill) through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) both parties signed last May 25 at the BM Gonzalez Hall.

Cargill is one of the biggest agricultural manufacturing businesses in the country offering agricultural products and services, including poultry and animal nutrition.

The academic collaboration, in the form of internship and practicum program, will now be accessible to students taking BS Agriculture.

In his message at the MOA signing, Chancellor Jose V. Camacho, Jr. said that the partnership will harness the students’ employability by gaining experience from the industry and avoiding job mismatches.

Chancellor Camacho also said that UPLB is now exploring higher forms of partnership including research collaboration with Cargill.

Lani Macalinao, Human Resources Lead of Cargill PH, added that the company is happy to partner with the University, especially in producing future leaders in the field of animal science.

Dean Elpidio Agibisit, Jr. of the College of Agriculture and Food Science (CAFS) said that feedback from the industry, including Cargill, are always welcome to ensure that the students will be equipped with the right skillsets upon entering the workforce.

During the signing ceremony, Chancellor Camacho and Dean Agbisit were joined by Institute of Animal Science Director Rommel Sulabo and faculty member Christine Adiova.

Representing Cargill PH were Macalinao; Christopher Ilagan, government relations director; and John Philip Cañada, senior recruiter. (Ana Vera G. Oleta)
